MAZEN // مازن
A film about nostalgia, home, loss, pain, dreams, and love.
For my DS class we were asked to create a digital media based on the lyrics of the Beatles’ song “She’s leaving home”; so, here’s my response to the lyrics via this short video☺️even though I only had 2 days to film myself and edit it on my own, I know I’ll be coming back to this assignment later on in the future...I guess the reason why I’m sharing this is because I know that I’m not the only one out there who’s struggled with loss, homesickness, loneliness etc and I hope that wherever you are and whatever you’re feeling that you get the chance to express yourself and feel “free at last” in whichever way that fits u best... my grandpa was the father I never had and filled my life with nothing but love and I guess this film is my way of reviving that feeling & keeping it alive as I progress further in my education abroad. The film carries multiple symbols and I would love to hear back any sort of feedback or reactions about it☺️lastly, I’d like to thank my Uber driver, Mazen, who I had the pleasure of meeting him coincidentally a few days ago while I was still brainstorming for this assignment. Mazen is from Syria and watching him tear up as he told me about how he missed his mother’s own funeral due to the travel ban and how brutal life is when living alone with no family is truly heartbreaking. Despite his own personal pain, he still offered me his phone number just in case I needed anything (since I’m also living miles away from my parents). This feeling is sadly common among many people nowadays and I would love to send my prayers to anyone out there who’s banned from seeing their own family rn due to political, economical, or medical conditions. Nothing matters in this world more than family so imagine having that be taken from you... meeting Mazen that day was definitely a sign for me... life is constantly giving us messages and signs that we’ll get to notice once we drop our attention from all the silly things... I’ll end with one note: whether your angels are in the sky or on earth, don't forget to to stay in touch with them. We owe them a lot, and the least we could do is show gratitude ✨
